A good start to a new series!
By Maria's Book Blog
Linda Bloodworth’s debut novel, A Raven’s Touch, is a YA Paranormal read that will definitely appeal to those who love the classic battle of Good vs. Evil. Typically you would expect just Angels and Demons, but Linda gives you a variety of fantasy beings, such as Elves, Vampires, Witches and Dragons, making this story truly unique.

The continuous action from start to finish, will keep you on the edge of your seat, as well as all the mystery shrouding Justice St. Michaels and the world as she knows it. There is lots to uncover, and a major battle to be won by this all star cast who are more like family than friends.

A Raven’s Touch does end in a bit of a “cliffhanger” but it’s a bearable one, more like a “to be continued.” I can’t wait to find out what happens next, and look forward to following Linda’s journey as an up and coming author.

I do have some minor issues to address though as far as the characters and storyline are concerned. From time to time, the characters were emotionally all over the place. In one conversation they're happy, sad, angry, joking. Sometimes in that exact order. It was a little awkward for their emotions to change so quickly and randomly.

Also, I would've liked the story to be spread out a little more. Quite a bit happens in a matter of days, and there’s really no downtime. It just goes from one chaotic moment to the next. Regardless of these qualms, all the action does make for a suspenseful and enjoyable read, that will captivate many readers. I recommend venturing into this intense fantasy world Linda has crafted.

A Raven's Touch By Linda Bloodworth

3 Stars

Linda Bloodworth has created a very unique world within the town of Fallingbrook that includes Angels, Demons, Vampires, Elves, and even a dragon in a different take on an Angel vs Demon story. A lot of ground is covered in this story with several action packed events happening within just a short few days we find our heroine, Justice along with bff Moira, getting their worlds completely turned upside down. The non stop action was a bit overwhelming at times making emotions seem to be all over the place for the characters. (I would love to see more character development as the series progresses.)

In the midst of this magical and chaotic world created by the author there manages to be a love story, (two love stories actually if we don't leave out bff Moira) between Justice and Darien. I liked the concept of Darien's character and his curse only to be broken by someone that loves him. I did find his dialogue a little bit on the corny side however I do feel that it was a good tool in the story as it reinforced his being from another time.

With all that happened in this book I was beginning to wonder if it was going to be a stand alone or part of series as I wished some of the major action scenes happened with some down time in between. I was surprised when the ending had a cliff hanger.) I am interested in seeing how Justice's story continues and look forward to reading the next book in the series. Linda Bloodworth will be a new author to watch.

The author does offer a warning about violence which I felt was appropriate after having read the book I was surprised to see it was classified as a YA Paranormal book as the descriptive violence may be too much for younger readers or those that do not like graphically written scenes depicting violence. I found myself cringing in a few places as the author painted very vivid pictures. (This is either good or bad depending on reading preferences. I didn't feel it took anything away from the story but do know some readers could have an issue.)

A promising fantasy debut
By Louis Cecile
In most books there are elements that have been replayed in many tales. Making the need to write well or change the narrative to make it different imperative.

This book has the premise of being written well without doing anything too different, which in itself is not a bad thing.

In essence a familiar story of a coming of age for the main character that is mixed with loyal friendships and a forbidden love. The main character is Justice a female heroine who is a typical teenager that happens to go through a constant trail of difficult scenarios. An almost cursed sense of misfortune follows her like a dark cloud throughout the story.

This obviously drains the character and of course love is the key for support. Whether that comes from friends or a lover.

The beginning plays really strong with various high school antagonisers drawing sympathy and empathy simultaneously depending on your life experience. The writer seems to sense the fatigue element of the break in the story between the next set piece. Just as the characters woes or trivial talk gets tiresome, a sudden impact alerts the reader from any sense of lull.

The story switches to a magical change that moves the story to the fantasy genre. Often symbolic of the switch from puberty to adulthood. The format continues of a break before a new plot turn.
The love interest is an interesting play of an experienced lover with what is a fresh faced young adult in the character Justice. They dominate proceedings and some of the other established characters fade into the background.

The new antagoniser is delightfully evil and there is a sense of loss when she is out scene, but you know she is coming soon to cause fresh pain. Due to this being a series, you can except other characters and back stories will be further explained. Whether they have enough pull from the main leads is another question.

The surprises are little telegraphed and as mentioned the set up before a new plot turn could be a stronger, especially in terms of the dialogue. However this is overall a well written story that gives enough investment for readers to continue with the next part in the series.
