Please don't give these plagerists more money

Don't buy this book. The information that you are looking for here is available for free. Go to teradata.com/certification, check the objectives for the basics exam, then look up those same topics online. Go to info.teradata.com and read the online documentation. It is more detailed and thorough. Large portions of this book are copied directly from the online documentation, but edited in such a way that you aren't left with the information you need to pass the certification exam.
This book is ridiculously expensive for what it offers - a low quality and incomplete introduction to teradata that will not help you pass the exam, or help you use teradata. This volume is advertizing material for how great the teradata system is, not a guide on how to use it.

Teradata Basics study guide inadequate

This study guide is hopelessly inadequate for the preparation for the exam. The exam requires a level of detail that is not present in the study guide. The exam requires you to know delicate juxtapositions of facts, how Teradata elements interrelate in a matrix format, and very specific details about each element. The exam multiple choice questions present a set of answers that are often so similar to one another, that it is impossible to know if you are wrong or right. I studied for hours a day from the study guide for 2 weeks and still failed. I will need to supplement the study guide with Teradata manuals. The study guide does not give bullet points, and purposely does not present the information in the way in which you need to know it to pass. I am very disappointed that a study guide of this high price is so poorly put together that it does not prepare you. It is clearly done on purpose to make sure that this certification is very hard to obtain. They are dead right when they say in the preface of the book that studying it will not result in a pass.

Good guide..

Haven't taken the exam yet, taking it tomorrow. The last chapter is a bit of mess and refers to both the Unity Product suite and the old components now being replaced/called Unity or the Unified Architecture. Question 6 only has 1 answer, which is it? This chapter is confusing and leads me to believe I could be asked a question that references either Teradata Replication Services Or Unity Data Mover. I expected more given that this is a Teradata approved study guide. If I pass the exam tomorrow, I'll come back and up my review to 4 stars but right now I'm keeping it to 3.

Update

I passed the exam and the study guide turned out to provide significant value so I increased it to 4 stars. As one other poster said, you definitely need practical experience along with the study guide to pass this exam. The exam is no push over.

Originally published in Turkey in 1999 to wide acclaim, this screwball love story is Shafak's third novel. (Her fifth, The Saint of Incipient Insanities, was published here in 2004.) Loosely organized around a neurotic obese woman and a feisty dwarf, it teems with parallel plots and digressions, freely leaping from modern apartment living in Istanbul to a 19th-century Turkish freak show and fur hunts in 17th-century Siberia. Shafak's prose (ably translated by Freely) follows a humorous, idiosyncratic course, seizing on arresting visual details, such as "a house the color of salted green almonds" and dispensing oddly charming aphorisms: "Love is a corset." (She adds: "In order to understand the value of this you have to be exceedingly fat.") At one moment, a faceless newborn's features are etched on by an anxious aunt; at another, a shipwrecked Russian sailor surprises a shaman in flagrante delicto with an oversized sable. The early parts of the novel can feel maddeningly unfocused for a book about the power of the stare. Later pages home in on an unexpected emotional trauma, and the atmosphere of fantastical levity clears to reveal an urgent, human pain. Shafak probes the many ironies of appearance and perception with entertaining and affecting results. (Oct.)

Among Elif Shafak books one to skip

I have to say that Elif Shafak is one of the writers I like best, however, in this book I feel that is not the best of this autot.
If you are about to read for first time this writer I would recommend you to start with another one , as to say, The Bastard of Istanbul, Honour,the forty Rules of Love... The Flea Palace and the best for me was The Apprentice of Architect.
The Gaze has some good passages but some disgusting especially those of the "fat woman and the dwarf", and those related to the big cherry tent ...
The way the writer connects some chapters - in my view- is trough some words , ( cherry, tent , etc ..)

A very good book wasted by an incapable taranslator

The English translation of this book is incredibly bad. Here is a very simple example:
In the original text it says:
... with 50 cannon salute ... (in Turkish: 50 pare top atisiyla)

And here is the translated version:
... with 50 tosses of the ball ....
(in Turkish "cannon" and "ball" are homophonic words. Unfortunately, not being aware of this fact, the translator made up a new sentence which does not even convey the meaning of the preceding sentences.)

The translated text contains lots of such errors. If you had read this wonderful book of Elif Safak, and had not liked it, be sure that it is just because of these awkward translation errors.

captivating gaze

This is a wonderful book, probably the best one I have read of Elif Shafak. This is a very well written story with parallel stories in different time that interdigitate to make the whole message stronger. It deals with how other people sees us and the effects that seeing, being seen and not seen and not being seen have in our lives. Secrets that we all have and how they impact on our wish to be seen and be seen are also wonderfully depicted in this novel. If you wish to expore this excellent contemporary Turkish novelist, The Gaze is a good start.

I really enjoy E.W. Bullinger's work and this one here is a must have!
Bible study is an ongoing ever evolving entity in my opinion, so I use a lot
of reference material and weigh them against the scriptures of the KJV bible.
In this way I can understand God's word as he would have me to understand it and
how much of it for that matter.
There is no man on earth who knows all the answers, so we must Study (for ourselves), to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

A good mix

This compilation of three short stories is a fairly quick read, which I enjoyed. I think I'd have fared better with the first if I'd read more of the author's longer works. The premise is that he invites his characters to a party. In spite of having a list of characters before the story began, and their relationships to one another, there were so many that I was a bit puddled. It was a great party though. Wouldn't have minded an invitation! The second story is a darker one altogether, and the third features one of the author's regular characters involved in a mystery on his holidays. No relaxation there!
A good mixed bag, but probably better if you are more familiar with the characters.
