Best Set of Sikh Books from a foreign Writer.

Macauliffe, as a foreign writer did an excellent job of writing the sacred Hymns of the Sikhs.He put in great labor to understand the philosophy and History through contacts with the leading proponents of his times.It is still considered a best work in English language and near perfect translation.Must keep at every Home for reference.

Initial feedback - good, but missing something

I've worked in low and high-level 2D graphics for 20 years, but 3D graphics are almost completely new to me so I was very excited to find this book, especially since my latest focus is in HTML/Javascript - the environment for which the new HTML5 WebGL is targeted. The first chapter is wonderfully informative, but may require some graphics background to appreciate. In fact, this old dog learned something really basic on page 3 (I always had a slightly different definition of what "immediate mode" and "retained mode" meant). By the end of the first chapter you're already getting into how Matrix math works and how it applies to 3D graphics. This was one of the better examples I have seen.

There is a TON of information in this book covering most aspects of 3D, but the concepts are pretty hard core and I think a newbie programmer would be intimidated and not find much of interest, and if you already have a solid foundation in 3D, you might this to be too focused on 3D concepts and not enough on how to switch to WebGL.

Other than feeling this book has a rather narrow audience, my only real complaint is that for such an exciting topic, the book itself leans too much towards the bland presentation of an academic text book with too few illustrations, and example code consists of uninspired projects. Some kind of very basic 3D game would have been much more interesting (and informative) than drawing kitchen furniture. I would have also liked some more information on generating 3D models - the tools/applications that are available and how to pull their models into your code.

3 stars seems a bit too low, but 4 seems too much as the book did not feed my enthusiasm for sitting down and actually learning this stuff.

Rather heavy duty material for graphics newcomers

Note that the title of this book includes the word "Professional". What exactly does this imply? Basically, it means that you have to be willing to learn a lot of technical material, but by doing so you will have a toolset that will serve you well in developing graphics for the web.

Here's what I mean: In some programming languages, it takes very few lines of code to produce graphics. Indeed, the Processing programming language will let you write exactly one line of code to produce a triangle on your screen. Then, in the Processing programming language, you can export that program as a web page.

By contrast, this book's first "Basic" graphics example is a triangle that requires roughly 100 lines of code (a mix of HTML, WebGL, and Javascript). That's a lot of code, but along the way, you are also learning a lot! Before you get to your first triangle, you will learn about: affine matrix transformations, linear algebra, the basics of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), Rasterization, and a brief history of OpenGL.

Like most Wrox books, this is very well organized and very instructive. Expect to learn a lot. But don't expect to just throw a couple lines of code up on the screen and get the next great web-based game. If you're willing to work hard, this book is worth it!

Great introduction to WebGL

This book gives a great introduction WebGL.
I had very little experience with 3D Programming and no experience with OpenGL prior to reading this book and I found it to give a very lucid and easy understanding of all the fundamentals as well as deeper insight in this new field.
Code examples are very usefull for anyone planning to incorparate 3D graphics on their website.
Being the first book I read on the subject I don't have anything to compare to but highly recommend it for anyone who wants to get familiar with WebGL.

Reluctant Heroine

Okay, so anyone who reads my reviews knows by now I am very fond of the old, old Harlequin Romances, but let me point out that I have read many other publishers, like Fawcett Crest, Signet, Pocket book and Walker just to name a few, I have over 6000 books and I have read more than 7000 books, from my own library and the Marion County Public Library, not to mention books other people press me to read, because I like old Harlequin Romances they think I need to widen my scope of reading. My telling them I have read other writers outside Harlequin Romance is met with doubt. Therefore they loan me books to read to help me on my way.
Needless to say I go right back to my old standby Harlequin Romance. Now the reason I like the old, old books is because of the lack of sexual content. Unfortunately I find many of the writers go for mean, selfish, hard, cold, even abusive alpha males, and sweet innocent vulnerable females.
This book if not one of them. Declan Stone finds out his father Gerald is about to marry Brenda a woman who is not only widow, but she has a 16 yr-old daughter Paige.
Paige has a crush on Declan, she finds him kind, sympathetic, and strong at the age of 24.
At a pool party, and barbecue Gerald is giving Paige finds she has a headache, and goes in to lie down, only to over hear Declan telling Gerald he is a fool for marrying, he should have a fling and get it out of his system, then get on with his life Declan calls Brenda a gold-digger. And Declan points out that he won't claim Paige as his stepsister, because she is awful in his opinion.
So set the stage for Paige, as she grows up into a beautiful woman, she still remembers the horrible things Declan said about her mom and her.
When 6 yrs later she is invited to spend the weekend at Gerald home for his birthday, she is shocked to find Declan is there. She doesn't know that Brenda went to London to talk to Declan and they reached an understanding, but then Brenda didn't hear the things Paige did.
So Paige is at war with Declan, and he has no idea what he has done to cause her to hate him.
Declan is very attracted to Paige, and he does all that he can to impress her, but she snaps at him all through the weekend.
Later they end up in the same house at Xmas, and Declan wants to call a truce, but Paige is ill, and her behavior seems to Declan as the same as when they met for his father's birthday.
Only Declan has tickets to a London show, and the whole family is invited, as well as expensive hotel rooms for the weekend.
When Paige gives into the Flu and because she hasn't been taking care of herself, the flu hits her hard.(I've had the flu, boy do I know what she went through.)
Declan decides to make up for the mean way he treated Paige by taking care of her while she is sick, and sending their parents off to the show.
But Paige isn't a good patient, and they knock heads again.
After Paige is well, Declan decides to tell her the truth, he is in love with her, she then hits him with the things he said of her and her mother 6 yrs ago. And...

Another Bernel Twist

If you love surprises and story twists, you'll love this story. Dani is the rebellious young heroine. Her attraction to men has unexpected, surprising consequences. Unlike Bernel's previous series in the Secret Trinity, where you are thrust into a fantasy world and stay there, with Dani you move in and out of the real world and into her fabled underground on a regular basis. Her somewhat dis-functional family situation allows her to traverse her two worlds largely without suspicion, and the setting of her Father's gourmet restaurant provides an interesting metro backdrop, if not a humorous reference to the book's title. The men in her life are an interesting character study, Alec, Eli, her Father, her Brother, her "victims". I can't wait to find out what happens next and discover more about who is behind the 7th Circle... more suspense and surprise twists I hope!

I was a fan of the author's first series - read it twice now, so I was eagerly awaiting this first book of her new series. It did not disappoint! I have been welcomed in to teenage-hell once again, but in a different way. Dani isn't an ordinary teenage girl; she's a vampire leading a double life. The insecurities and trials and tribulations this girl faces in the midst of opening her heart are what I enjoyed most about this book. December 2013 cannot come soon enough. I can't wait to read what lies ahead for Dani and the boy who understands her, Alec.

Great read

This book is a page turner! The main character Dani is relatable and the story is intriguing. Same as the authors last series, The Secret Trinity, there are plot twists and great details that guide the reader's imagination. I am excited to read the rest of the series as soon as it is available to find out what adventure danger and romance the characters will be involved in. 110% recommend! ( and if you like this, you should also read the other books by this author).
