Donald Margulies's plays include Dinner with Friends, Coney Island Christmas, Time Stands Still, Shipwrecked! He has won a Lucille Lortel Award, an American Theatre Critics Award, two Los Angeles Drama Critics Awards, two Obie Awards, two Dramatists Guild Hull-Warriner Awards, one Tony Award nomination, six Drama Desk Award nominations, two Pulitzer Prize nominations and one Pulitzer Prize. Note to regional theater artistic directors: if you're going to produce one Chekhov homage this year, make it The Country House

This play was unjustly drubbed by The NY Times. What you can't see in a smug review is the non-critic audiences that were gleefully eating it up. With all due respects to Mr. Durang's humorish Mad magazine send-up of Chekhov, The Country House is an unabashed love letter to Anton. Here's a note to local community theater artistic directors: you are overlooking a gem of a play because Ben Brantley didn't quite like or get it enough. (Read Terry Teachout's review in the Wall Street Journal for an accurate assessment of this play.) You've got a multigenerational cast: the grand dame of the theater, her 40-something son and college age granddaughter, a movie producer (the widower of her late daughter) and his new young girlfriend. Plus a hunky TV actor. It's funny, touching and incredibly charming. I saw this play in L.A. and then in NYC and thought all the while that this was going to be produced by theaters all over America. It's not too late. Read this and see.

The 26 stories in this book by the late Gene Hillare exactly what the title says. You will eitherlaugh or cry over each one. Fortunately, there is more laughter than tears. If you have ever had a dog steal your heart, you need to read this book you won't be sorry

Nothing could be more pleasing then to see someone articulate a subject so well. Often quoted (and for good reason), few authors have a more honest voice or greater capacity for storytelling then Gene Hill.

I couldn't put it down and I don't even hunt!

I bought this for my husband/hunter and I read it before he did, he was busy with the other one I gave him along with this one called "Just Dogs, a literary and photographic tribute to the great hunting breeds". The stories were wonderful and the illustrations were just as good. My husband often enjoys stories over a single lengthy plot, and these fit the bill perfectly. This book makes a great gift, and the above mentioned is definitely worth considering, the photos alone are fantastic.

A Funny and Entertaining book that kids do not want to put down

My seven year old daughter loves these books. I have the entire series because she will not put the book down until she has finished reading it! AJ is a funny and silly boy who absolutely hates school. The characters that the author has created is so interesting and easy for children to relate to on any level. Whether it being the Nude Kid or the Know It All classmate who always has the correct answer. It is funny to see the world though the eyes of a child what they think of their teachers and how strange the world is to them at school. These books are a must to have as a parent or an educator for those none readers. I love reading this series to my second grade students and they do not want me to stop reading even the little boys fine "Arlo" the main character to be cool and funny at the same time.

I was going to burst out laughing!

Do you like to read? I hope so! One of my favorite books is Dr. Brad Has Gone Mad! by Dan Gutman. This book is about when the main character, A.J., hypnotizes a girl named Andrea and she goes crazy. Then the police came and wanted to know what happened, but Dr. Brad does not let them! This book is in the My Weird School series and all of them are weird! I really like Dr. Brad Has Gone Mad!

One reason is the book is funny. A boy named A.J. hypnotizes a girl named Andrea. She goes crazy and pulls the fire alarm. Then she climbs up on the roof of the school, and hits the principal (Mr. Klutz), with a tennis ball, and calls the principal and police a bad name. I didn't know what was happening, but for sure I knew I was going to burst out laughing!

Another reason I like the book is it is weird. At the end of the book, a teacher named Dr. Brad starts crying. So the school security (Mrs. Patty), calls A.J. to come into Dr. Brad's room. But when A.J. gets there, Dr. Brad is crying. I think that is weird because teachers do not usually cry in school. Also weird is that the game of ping pong cheers him up!

Another reason I like Dr. Brad Has Gone Mad is after the book, you could keep writing on and on and on! This book keeps you thinking! For example, when I finished Dr. Brad Has Gone Mad, I wanted to write more!

If you want to read this book, I'd recommend it to students in kindergarten-third grade. The next time you are looking for a good book try Dr. Brad Has Gone Mad!

i think this is the best book of the weird school books!

this book is about dr.brad tried to hypothesize the main character named A.J. but it didn't work. after that,A.J. tried to hypothesize little miss perfect (Andrea)to be bad kid and tried to think her she hate school and everything,but before he didn't had a chance to snap his finger, the bell rang.she was something wrong!After she reach mr.granite's class,she yelled to her teacher and got out of class.few seconds later the fire alarm rang.soon everyone was outside of school,they saw Andrea on the roof.then the fire man and police arrived because somebody must called 911!dr.brad said he could show kindness,but A.J.'s friend named Michel said only A.J. can unhypothesize.

I wish I could give this book and series, at least a 10 star review. You have to love this Italian men, they are truly gentleman, but they are also Alpha male when the ones they love. Dante is the start of this series, he is so yummy. Get your copy today. P.S. I read all these books in 48 hours, does this tell you how good this series is?

The Pardoner's Tale by Morgan Ferdinand

This is a little strange but funny creepy tale. The Everyday Spectres are always very interesting stories, usually paranormal with a twist, for how much a twist can be in paranormal genre.

Nicholas Pardoner is a PI and a werewolf. Actually his werewolf side is not a bonus for his work, giving him a lot of problem with an ultrasensitive smell and a lot of pain when he changes. Plus he has uncontrollable angry attack when he is emotional unstable. One of his task as shifter PI is to kill all the vampires around. There is not a specific in this task, and so when he is off duty and see a new vampire, he plans his attack. But the vampire, Alex, is not our usual vampire. Actually he is a pretty good buddy and an unwilling Nicholas ends up living with him. Why? Even Nicholas doesn't know. Maybe is a pack question: Alex becomes pack for Nicholas.

It's hate and love between Nicholas and Alex. Same age and same interest make them two compatible roommate, but sex seems not to enter in the list of thing they have in common. Plus a demon is hunting Alex, and Nicholas and Alex find themselves running. During the journey they bond tightens, but love still remains outside of the term.

The Pardoner's Tale is not an usual paranormal novel. Alex is not the classical vampire by night type. Actually he has no problem with the sun light and can eat everything he wants. And Nicholas is not the classical werewolf who is more at comfort in wolf form than in human one, au contraire he avoids to shift if he can. And Alex and Nicholas's life is not glamour and easy, they live in shitty apartment, eating in cheap restaurant and dealing with bills and lack of stability.

The story is not very long, less than 85 pages, and I think it doesn't have a real end: I don't know what will happen to Nicholas and Alex, what will be their life, if they will have a life together. Actually I didn't even know if Nicholas and Alex in the end are a couple... or if Nicholas is even gay! But well, more than the end of the story, it's interesting all the setting and the characters and their background... I think they are good materials for something more, maybe a second book?

A quick rundown of what I liked and didn't like

Other reviewers have already given plot rundowns, so instead of rehashing what you already know (werewolves! vampires! not what you think! solving paranormal crimes!) I'll tell you what I liked and didn't like.

Liked: fast-paced; didn't get bogged down in needless exposition and/or character navel-gazing.

Didn't like: too short! This left me wanting more, so I sure do hope there's more in the future.

Liked: subtle humor, a bit of snark, a good evolution of friendship and trust.

Didn't like: some periods of time in the book moved faster than others, which normally doesn't bother me as it has to happen (otherwise all books would be hundreds of thousands of pages long), but I wanted to see more of their earlier cases and a bit more of how they learned to work together. Maybe the author will revisit those times in another book - that would be fun to read, especially if it's a few years from now and there's more development in books between now and then.

Liked: side characters seemed really developed; I like a book where even tertiary characters don't seem just... tacked in, but more fully developed characters in their own right.

Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and I look forward to more from this author in the future.

Great new mystery duo... Hope for a sequel!

Loved , loved this book! The main characters Nick( werewolf) and Alex ( vampire) start off trying to kill each other, then become partners in a PI business . They get rid of paranormal problems! They flounder around , but eventually get the job done! The meat of the story is about their relationship. They need each other , because for obvious reasons they have no one else! Nick especially has a hard time trusting anyone. They are now one of my favorite duos to read about, they bicker and fight, but you always know they have each others back. I just noticed from the other reviewers that this is a re edited title , it is now longer and includes book two: Ace of wands. We get to see Nick and Alex's relationship progress , it is 196 pages now. Hope there will be more adventures!

Part 6 – Disney California Adventure – Cars Land

Cars land is the crowning capst one on DCA’s transformation, and the first major “land” in an American Disney theme park devoted solely to a single film franchise. Tucked in the park’s southeast corner on 12 acres of repurposed parking lot, Cars Land’s main entrance is across from the Golden Vine Winery, though there are secondary gateways in A Bug’s Land and in Pacific Wharf (the vista through the latter’s stone archway entrance is especially scenic). A massive mountainous backdrop topped with 125-foot high peaks patterned after 1950s Cadillac Pinnacle tail fins, known as the Cadillac Range, cradles Ornament Valley, home to a screen-accurate re-creation of Radiator Springs. That’s the sleepy single-stoplight town along Route 66 populated by Pixar’s anthropomorphized automobiles. Along its main drag, in addition to three rides, you’ll find eateries themed to the film’s minor characters and souvenir shops selling Cars-themed and Route 66 merchandise.

Cars Land represents a considerable investment in capital and creativity for the Disney company, resulting in a rare example of complete entertainment immersion. Walking through the aesthetically astounding area is uncannily like stepping into the cinematic universe, and well worth the wait even if you weren’t particularly enamored of the merchandise-moving movies. The 1,200 high-pressure water nozzles installed under the surface of DCA’s Paradise Bay are the infrastructure for Disney’s $75-million attempt to keep guests in the park (and spending money) until closing time. If you’ve seen or heard about the spectacular fountain show at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, World of Color—Celebrate! is similar but larger, with more special effects and themed to Disney movies.

Though the original version of World of Color was still wildly popular, in honor of Disneyland’s Diamond Anniversary, it was completely overhauled and given the new subtitle Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney. This new special edition of World of Color is explicitly a tribute to Walt Disney, the man and his “dreams of Disneyland,” and incorporates classic animated images with live-action footage of Uncle Walt and a new musical score, along with clips from dozens of Disney films, attractions, and character
in its 22-minute performance.

The show’s backdrop includes Mickey’s Fun Wheel, fitted with special lighting effects for use in the show. Giant projection surfaces sculpted by sprayed water—even larger than those used in Fantasmic!—display custom-made animations, and flamethrowers spew almost enough heat to dry off guests standing in the splash zones. What’s most remarkable about the show is how the flashing colored lights and pulsating fountains combine to look like low-level fireworks. The effects are astounding, and the colors are
vibrant and deep.

World of Color—Celebrate! is hosted by stage and screen star Neil Patrick Harris, and boy, did Disney get their money’s worth with him. NPH (as he’s known to his fans) is in almost every scene of the show. Unfortunately, even if you’re a huge fan of his work as Doogie Howser, Barney Stinson, and/or Hedwig, Harris’s presence crosses the line from conducive host to obtrusive interloper, as he’s awkwardly inserted into stiffly animated sequences and made to sing a mediocre new theme song that isn’t nearly as catchy as the old “Wonderful World of Color” tune.

Updated Information - Very Helpful With Places to Stay and Things to Do

I have been to Disneyland too many times to count. I haven't been for the last few years due to a back surgery but am now planning a trip. I wanted to get some info that was up to date on places to stay, etc... There have been many changes in the last 6 years so I just wanted updated info. There were a couple of tips on places to stay that I found very helpful right off the bat. For someone who has never been or hasn't been in many years, I think this up to date info is well worth the purchase price.

I've been to Disneyland at least 20 times and Disneyworld at least 15. I still buy the latest edition of this book every time - always useful and well updated. It is packed with tips for first-timers and veterans alike. You spend a lot of money on a Disney vacation. Spend the money on this book to make sure you get the most out of your trip.
